Current methodological approaches to literary history in the Czech Republic
BOROVKOVÁ, Gabriela
In the 20th and 21st century, several resonating types of methodological approach to literary history have emerged in the Czech lands. This thesis desribes and analyzes the ever changing conception of literary history from the late 19th century to the present and how it has been put into practice when writing literary history. Concepts that have been dominating the discourse in recent decades are emphasized. After 1989, individual discoursive topics in the realm of literary history are reflected as well. Concepts that represent a 'paradigm shift' or a new typpe of speech are preferred - the thesis has a qualitative rather than quantitative character. All methodological concepts are reflected in the Euroamerican context.

HLAVÁČKOVÁ, Eliška
This bachelor thesis deals with analyzing the novella Marie from 1960, which was written by the Czech prosaic Alexandr Kliment, and comparing the book to the identically named film adaptation, which was directed by Václav Vorlíček in 1964. The main focus is put on describing both narratives - mainly in the scope of the story, and characters; giving attention to the aspect of the narrator, events, and settings as well. Through the means of the analysis of each of the categories and their subsequent comparison between both narratives, this thesis aims to discover, whether the story was modified in order to better serve the audiovisual media, and if it was, then how each media influenced the interpretation of the story itself.

Procházková, Alena ; Sýkora, Luděk (advisor) ; Pauknerová, Karolína (referee)
In the cities locality development tends to be the object of conflicts and negotiations of different actors with varied interests, e.g. investors, developers, municipal leaders and citizens' associations. It is possible to find among these participants a wide range of strategies and preferences, often including a visual presentation of the urban projects. This diploma thesis centers on the completion of the Victory Square, which according to the master plan of Prague should be a secondary center and it should be the main square of Prague 6. Currently completion projects for the Victory Square are discussed with a significant amount of opposing debate on their intended use, their purpose and also their design. The aim of this paper is to (1) analyze the present-day role of the unfinished Victory square in the center system in Prague, (2) ascertain who has an interest in the completion of the square and what methods are utilized to present their goals, with particularly emphasis on construction of a new identity of the space, and (3) discuss who has the ability to influence the final result considering the different roles of private investors, municipality and citizens. This thesis will try to identify the role of capital, residents, and discourse as influential actors in the reconstruction process...

The thesis focuses on the analysis of a dispute regarding home birth and discourses associated with it. The thesis focuses on the analysis of a dispute regarding home birth and discourses associated with it. Media Presentation of the Pope Benedict XVI.
Pániková, Klára ; Češka, Jakub (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse the media presentation of the Pope Benedict XVI. in the Czech press. We arise from the assumtion that the way the Czech press writes about the present Pope is set by a certain discourse. That is why we use the method of dicourse analysis designed by Michel Foucault. Having carefully analysed altogether 690 articles from selected newspapers and magazines published between 02/04/2005 and 31/12/2007 we reached a number of fragmental results which in the end turned to be the parts of the searched for discourse. In so doing some hidden motives, which seem to form an esential part of the media presentation of the Pope Benedict XVI., emerged. Along with that the absence of the journalists' ability to assess the proper meaning of some words or to lay proper stresses appeared too. As this thesis brings out, the journalists are at the same time impossible to take a step forward in this as their way of thinking about the Pope is set by the discourse (that they themselves first created). So, we came to the conclusion that the media presentation of the Pope Benedict XVI. is influenced by, e.g. stereotypes we Czechs have about the German nationality or artificially (by journalists) connected events in Benedict's life. We also show that the present Pope is a very good object of...
Burden-Sharing in NATO: A Discourse Analysis
Šamonil, Ondřej ; Ditrych, Ondřej (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis analyzes the phenomenon of NATO burden-sharing. Due to late security crises in Europe, such as Crimea crisis, the never-ending alliance issue has been encased in new dynamics. This new dynamics supposedly threatens the long preserved status quo and can even lead to the breakup of the alliance. The thesis uses methodological framework prescribed by Lene Hansen. This framework draws heavily on work from David Campbell and his Writing Security. For the successful analysis, we first designate our inter-textual governmental field in which we then try to observe the repeating ideational/argumentative norms of the respective discursive actors in the alliance. We also divide our research field into two time units: the 1990s era and events after 9/11. Interpretation of the behaviour of certain members shows establishment of a several interconnected centres of argumentation, which somehow coincides with the three largest European members of NATO. The thesis also shows, that these argumentative actors tend to transform their argumentative structures along with the changing environment and context. For better understanding, the work encompasses the short-term, intensive burden-sharing situations, like NATO interventions, but also debates on long-term institutional solutions, which are mostly seen...

Procházka, Tomáš ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
In 2007 the international community started to establish the political status of Kosovo, the Serbian province, inhabited mostly by the Muslim Albanian majority. In February 2008 Kosovo declared independence. What happened in the so-called "last media battle for Kosovo"? This thesis, called Representations of Serbs and Albanians in the Czech press during the proces of declaring independence of Kosovo, investigates discourses of two Czech newspapers and their coverage of the events between February 2007 and June 2008 when the Kosovo Constitution came in force. This thesis use both quantitative and qualitative content analysis. The analysis of recontextualization shows that the newspapers reproduce the dominant Serbian nationalism that focuses on the myth of a Greater Serbia.By an appropriation of different discourses, the dominant Serbian nationalism becomes legitimized and justified. In particular, the newspapers reproduce distinctive religious discourses from the political past, and furthermore, they borrow the so-called European,"war on terrorism" and "crime" discourses from the international mainstream public spheres and appropriate them to the contemporary political context. They borrow the so-called "modern Munich betrayal" and the Czech-Serbian kinship too. Generally, the newspapers reappropriate...
